What's in my work makeup bag?
I've had this blog for two weeks and have not written a single beauty post (shock horror!). To kick off the beauty posts and in true #YoPro style, I thought I'd start with a 'what's in my work makeup bag'.
Even as a self-professed makeup-addict, when my alarm goes off at 6am in the morning, the last thing I have time to do is create a cut-crease, paint on my contour and dab on the highlight. I usually shove up my hair, dollop on my foundation (more on my daily makeup routine in another post) and coat my lashes in a lick of mascara before I'm out the door.
To touch up during the day, I carry around five staple products in my gorgeous Oliver Bonas Alphabet makeup bag (thanks G!).
Staple #1 - Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover has to be my all-time favourite makeup product. This camouflage foundation is strong enough to cover tattoos, scars and full-blown acne - carrying me through my teenage years (minus the tattoos)! After years and years of spot-defying magic, I won't be found without it. A red, bulbous spot forms in the middle of your forehead thirty minutes before a work presentation? Sorted. You've been up all night because of a deadline and you can see your bags from a mile away? Sorted. You went to Magaluf and got a tattoo you now regret? Sorted. If you haven't got this tube of wonderment in your life, go. and. get. it!
Staple #2 - L'oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder
The L'oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder is a relatively new purchase of mine. I had gone off powder for a long time, preferring the dewy-get-the-glow-my-name-is-madeleine-shaw look to the heavily powdered mega-matte-look-how-much-makeup-I'm-wearing kind of vibe. One day, however, I looked in the mirror at work and was horrified to discover that my dreams of dew were nothing more than a big, greasy face. As soon as I finished work, I rushed to Superdrug and picked up this little beauty. The powder is extremely compact; it comes with a mirror and a lovely little puffer. Safe to say, my grease is now under control. Would highly recommend!
Staple #3 - Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Kidman's Kiss
Charlotte Tilbury. Charlotte flippin' Tilbury. I could bathe in a sea of her products! As soon as she launched her Hot Lips collection, I knew I had to add one to my lipstick collection. Not only does the 1920s-inspired rose-gold packaging look gorgeous, the product is absolutely delightful. I decided to go for Kidman's Kiss - a pink-toned nude. It is perfect to slap on when my makeup needs lifting or my outfit needs spicing up! The matte formula is expertly crafted and the lipstick is highly pigmented. 5*.
Staple #4 - Charlotte Tilbury The Classic Eye Pencil in Sophia
Another Charlotte Tilbury product...are you surprised? The Classic Eye Pencil in Sophia is a soft brown kohl sprinkled with gold flecks. Although I don't use this everyday, I carry it with me just incase that 5pm meeting turns into after work drinks. In that case, I would either draw it on my eyelids and smudge with fingers to create a brown smokey eye, or draw it across my eye-line to intensify my look. As always with CT, this is high quality product with fantastic lasting power and beautiful pigmentation.
Staple #5 - Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara
After losing my FANTASTIC Origins Gen Zing Mascara in a night club toilet (#gohardorgohome), I decided to try out the Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara. This product claims to tint your lashes as you wear it. Although I haven't had this mascara long enough to testify, it gives a nice amount of volume without turning your lashes into clumpy-spiders. Overall, the mascara really reminds me of the Lancome Hypnose line. Considering this was around £10, it's a great addition to any work makeup bag!
